30.20 was born out of a chance introduction between designer Matthew May and manufacturer Ravi Singh Rajawat.

Matthew had been working as a designer since the mid-1990s after graduating with an MA in Fashion Womenswear from Central Saint Martins School of Art, London. He spent several years working with fashion houses in Italy, Germany, and France before returning to London to collaborate with British brands. In 2015, Matthew relocated back to the Kent coast, where he grew up, to explore his passion for painting and textiles. He began working with print mills in Prato, Italy, and internationally on textile print collections.

Ravi had been working in the garment industry since 2003 and eventually established his own business in 2015. He has a deep knowledge of, and appreciation for, the textile crafts and traditions of Rajasthan.

The brand came to life as the two discovered a shared passion for fair, respectful, and transparent business practices, with a focus on the crafts and skills of artisans and bringing their work to a contemporary audience.
